Building your Confidence

The more paintings you complete, the more confidence you will get to move on and attempt more difficult subjects. My success with watercolour has boosted my confidence to a level were i now feel comfortable about the quality of my finshed paintings, although improving my technique is always at the back of my mind, i now feel confident enough to show the world, through my web site what i have achieved in such a relatively short period of time. Remember painting is supposed to be fun and relaxing, if you feel relaxed your chances of completing a successfull painting will greatly improve, the fun and enjoyment comes from the satisfaction of viewing your finished product. Confidence comes with practice

My target for 2010 is to continue and improve my individual style and to raise the level of quality in my finished paintings. The improvements, will i hope, be reflected in my latest paintings as they start to appear on this web site - see my Latest Paintings Page.

Tip:-

Always have a piece of clean tissue/paper towel in your hand before you start and during your painting session, this way you can control the amount of water on your brush at any one time, and ultimately the amount of paint which goes on to your paper, the amount of water you use is the number one key factor for successful Watercolour Painting and only comes with experience i'm afraid. Enjoy your painting and have FUN

Tip:-

For dry brush work, make sure the paint on your brush is not too wet, hold the brush on it's side with four fingers on one side and the thumb on the other so the side of the hairs just catch the raised surface area of the rough paper

Paintings by British Artists

Editor's comment

Peter paints in my favourite medium, the paintings offer a delightful insight into the artists mind. Uncluttered, clear and focused on the task in hand. He mentions in his description about putting too much detail into his work, that's a tough call, it's easy to overpaint, more so in watercolour. A mess usually results. The artist has figured that one out and the result is clear, inspiring contemporary watercolour paintings.

I do like the Sunset on the Lake, that has a calming effect, Mountain Range is quite dramatic and has a good feeling of depth. Winter Shadows, now, Winter pictures in watercolour are a gem, this one I do like, again, because of the warmth. I like all of Peter's work, it's a pleasure on the eye.
